New ColourPop Eyeshadow Haul!

I recently hit pan on my ColourPop super shock eyeshadow in the shade Smash and notice it’s been getting a bit dry so I hopped on ColourPop’s website and spotted a sale I couldn’t resist.  At checkout, I ended up getting seven new shadows and a mini ultra satin lippie. I’ve broken down the shades below with plenty of swatches and some feedback after I’ve tried them out.

Fringe

This is an ultra glitter champagne shade. I really love the color and it swatches like none other, but after wearing this as an inner corner highlight all day, all that was left was the silver flecks of glitter. They also migrated all over my under eye. I did a workout while wearing this so that probably contributed to the glitter spreading everywhere.

Supermodel

A satin golden, ivory shadow – this one won my heart immediately. I love rocking this shade as an all over the lid wash of color for a quick out-the-door day.

Co-pilot

Ultra glitter, icy pink. This is a really pretty girly shade. I plan on rocking this during the summer with a no-makeup, makeup look.

Cornelius

Matte warm caramel. Cornelius is a perfect crease, transition shade. I really am looking forward to working with a cream transition shade as all of my shadows thus far have been powder/pressed

Wattles

Satin dusty beige pink. This is a beautiful shade, but I think it may not be for me. It leaves me looking sickly/beaten. I need to work with it some more to get comfortable with it and hopefully find a use for it.

Bandit

Matte warm rusty brown. Bandit makes a great outer corner shade if you have a darker shade just added ever so slightly to it. It’s really pretty but too warm for my transition shade. It makes me look a little sick. I’m kind of sad that I didn’t like this one more than I do.

Weenie

Ultra metallic rose gold. I think that’s a terrible description. To me, it looks more like the bottom right shade in the Morphe 35o palette, in a cream form. I’m scared for what they describe as copper.

Dopey

I know this isn’t an eyeshadow, but it was free with my purchase. It’s one of their ultra satin lippies. They call it a muted pink, but it draws a very purple tone on my lips.  I love this shade and the ultra satin lips. They’re matte, but don’t dry down quite as much as the ultra matte lips do. It’s not irritating and doesn’t leave me touching my lips or feeling like I NEED to put on chapstick. They’re more comfortable to wear, and don’t leave my mouth looking like it’s spent a year in the desert w/o chapstick. You know all the little lines. I had minimal transfer if any, but when I ate dinner, it came off fairly easily. It didn’t flake like the ultra-mattes do.

I really love Colourpop as a whole.  They have some amazing products that are a decent price. They’re good quality and made in the USA. Just this week ColourPop has just added nail polish, setting mists, and holographic lip balms to their collection.  If you want to check out their site click here.

An Open Letter To The New College Grad

Dear Grad:

Congratulations. You did it.  You’re officially a college grad! This is a huge accomplishment.  Whether you have an Associate’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree, or a degree in basket weaving — I’m clapping for you.

You should celebrate, even if you don’t feel like it.  You might be sad about leaving your beloved university and moving back home, or you might have gone through a breakup recently (those happen a lot this time of year), or you might be moving 3000 miles away from your best friends, but you only graduate college for the first time once.

This is your time to be the star of the show. After graduation, take some time to yourself. You just finished the last round of projects, finals, and graduation. Talk about a lot of stress. Read a book or two, binge some Netflix, or go on vacation. You get the idea.

Whatever you do, don’t let your debt feel like a weight on your shoulders.

That piece of paper is worth every penny.  I’m not sure if you had a warm and fuzzy college experience or if you were prepped for the real world.  I hope it was a little of the former, but mostly the latter.

I hope you’ve gotten your first job, but if you haven’t, don’t feel discouraged.  It took me almost a year to get my first job in my field.  Everyone wants to hire the person with experience and education, but not just an education.  I know, it’s super shitty, because, “how can me and my new degree get ‘real world working experience’ when no one will hire us?!?!” You just have to keep looking and applying, and be positive.  I got a temporary position at a children’s tutoring center before getting a Paralegal job.  Make use of those connections you stowed away in your arsenal. You might have connections you didn’t even know existed. (see next paragraph). Also, try different variations of your resume (layouts and wording), although, I recommend making it only a page in length.  Short and sweet, hit the high points. I’ll make a post about that later.

It’s all about connections…

My first job as a Paralegal, is probably what helped me land my current job, which ended up being about a $13,000 per year raise and great benefits, with less stress. My prior bosses used to work at the firm I am at now. You might end up in places you never thought you would.

In job searching, you might find you need an additional certification to get your dream job.  Now is the time to get it. You’re still in school mode – kind of – and you have nothing else to do, except maybe work your part time job or the job you never thought you would go back to or the job you know is only temporary. You can defer your loans a little more and get the additional certification to get your dream job. Just don’t get carried away. An entry level job isn’t going to pay a Master’s degree or Doctorate’s degree in salary if it’s not a job requirement that you have one.

The world is a scary place.

You wake up one day and you get handed this piece of paper, and now you’re no longer the concern of that university. A lot of us end up back in our parents’ home. Moving back in with your parents is okay.  Let me repeat: MOVING BACK IN WITH YOUR PARENTS IS OKAY.  Don’t feel like you’ve failed if this is what you have to do. Most of my friends I graduated with, myself included, did just that.  We’ve been able to save, pay down our loans, and keep working towards our dream job. It’s nice to know that your parents are your safety net.  Take advantage of this, but don’t get comfortable.  They don’t want a 30-year-old couch potato leeching their retirement money for beer and cheetos.

Gold notebook

Don’t be afraid to take a chance.

You might get a great entry level job opportunity that doesn’t pay very well.  And, if I were you, I would take it. You can build that resume, get some experience, and get in on the ground level.  This might even lead you to an amazing career.  After all, it’s all about the NETWORKING (vom!). As much as I hate that word, it’s true. Go re-read 4 paragraphs back if you don’t believe me!

You’re probably going to be overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time.  You’re entering a new chapter of your life. And I promise you that’s okay. Don’t forget to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.  You don’t just get to go from point A to point B without a transition.  Sometimes that transition is monotone and boring, or it can be incredibly frustrating, or it can be so exciting that you want to just steamroll through point B.  You have to stick it out and keep grindin’. You’ll make it.

“The roof is the ceiling.” – Michael Jordan.

Okay, we know he messed that up and meant to say “the sky’s the limit” and since the sky just extends into an unfathomably large universe – there isn’t a limit (only the one you set). So dream big, like bigger than you think you can achieve, and go for it. If you don’t make it to that goal, who cares – I’m sure you achieved some pretty kick ass goals along the way. Make sure you take some time to reflect on what you accomplish as you progress. Some of the stepping stones and minor goals, aren’t so minor when you really think about it. It all can get a little overwhelming at times, but….

Hey grad, you’ve got this!

Now go lay on the couch and finish binge watching FRIENDS for the 7th time. Even if you’re the over-achiever type – take a break and treat yo’self. You’ve earned it! Plus, you’ve got big things to do on Monday!

Life Updates – May 2017

Hey everyone! I am SO SORRY, that I’ve been neglecting my blog lately. So I thought I would take a few minutes and catch everyone on up on what’s been going on!

So I took my North Carolina Certified Paralegal Exam at the beginning of April, so I spent the better part of March studying and prepping for it. I’m so glad that that is out of the way and I should have my results come back in the next week or so.

At about the same time, I was looking for jobs (I’m not going to tell you how miserable that process was), and accepted a new job offer.  It’s a great opportunity to learn a different side to being a Paralegal.  It was a really great raise and benefits, so I’m super excited to be settling into my new office.  It’s another learning curve, but I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. I was sad to say good bye to my previous employer, but this is a wonderful new experience.

Also in my “she’s gone MIA” time, my kitten got neutered (it didn’t help calm my hyper fuzzball down), and my dog was really sick. He’s better now, but we were super worried because he’s so old.  Don’t you wish your furbabies lived forever…. Sigh.

I was also busy planning for my parents’ vacation that I was not invited on – you know picking the place, booking the hotel, getting the oil changed in the truck and the tires rotated… and then left at home.  In their defense, and which they kept reminding me of, I did go to college 10 minutes from the beach for 4 beautiful years. Also, they totally deserve this, but I am jealous that I’m not sitting on a beach in Florida right now.

About the same time as I started applying for new jobs, my best friend, whom I met in college, told me she’s moving across the state to my city, and we’re getting an apartment together. Yeah that’s a long sentence. I’m so freaking excited! So she’s looking for new jobs, too and has been interviewing with places to no avail. Please cross your fingers for us, because WE FREAKING NEED THIS.  So her, Jax (kitty), and I are all hopefully about to be shopping for an apartment. I can’t wait. I’ve been frantically saving and planning, and so has she, and hopefully everything will come together soon.  I promise you will know when the move happens.

So my friends – I’m going to be making a more conscious effort to blog and will be giving A Blonde’s Life the attention it deserves. I’ve got some exciting posts drafted that will be going live soon, so don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss a post. If there’s any types of posts you’d like to see, please let me know! I’d be happy to consider anything and everything and see if I can make it work!
